In a week or so we’ll be taking a good hard look at Nvidia’s 7900 series, but before this, I thought it was about time we went in depth with ATI’s high end cards, the X1900 XT and XTX, graciously provided by Connect3D. Let's be honest, as ATI's flagship product R520 didn't go too well. It wasn't that it was a bad product, it simply came too late to market due to an unexpected 6 month delay and on it's launch was priced much higher than Nvidia's 7800 GTX, of which had already been available at e-tailers for several months and therefore had plenty of time for its price to stabilize.

As far back as September and October of 2007, we were already digging up details of Intel's next-generation micro-architecture, codenamed Nehalem. Recently, we managed to lay our hands on insider information on the first Intel desktop processor based on the Nehalem micro-architecture. Codenamed Bloomfield, this processor will replace the quad-core 45nm Core 2 " Yorkfield" processors as Intel's flagship desktop processor. The next version of Windows, currently codenamed (Blackcomb Vienna) looks to be scheduled for release in the second half of next year. The operating system originally was going to be released in 2010, but the latest roadmap from Microsoft gives an RTM date of H2 2009. "Milestone 1" has already been shipped to Microsoft Partners. If this is all true, it will end up meaning that Windows Vista is the company's flagship operating system for 3 years, where as Windows XP was 5 years.

Only four short months ago AMD launched the Radeon HD 3870 X2 graphics card and it was the flagship ATI Radeon product, but the successor has arrived. AMD has taken two of the latest cores (RV770)and placed them on a single PCB to create the Radeon HD 4870 X2 graphics card. AMD kept the clock frequencies the same as the Radeon HD 4870 graphics card, so basically you have the power of a pair of those running CrossFire on a single PCB!
