My Casio Exilim digital camera is naming every picture CIMGxxxx.jpg with xxxx being a number between 1 and 9999. This naming convention makes it quite hard to find out any details about the picture unless you click on it or activate thumbnail view in the folder. It does make sense in my opinion to rename the images so that they can be recognized at first glance.

Read more »A new version of Firefox has been uploaded to various Mozilla ftp sites and mirrors throughout the globe which is always a sure sign that the homepage and the automatic updater in Firefox will pick the new version up pretty soon as well. Version 2.0.0.13 is labeled as a security and stability update which means you will not see new features in this release.
Read more »A new version of Revo Uninstaller was just released and I thought it would be nice to inspect the new version since my last review dates a while back. Several new features have been implemented into this new version including improvements in the Advanced Uninstall Mode, interface improvements and safety improvements for the Uninstall Safe Mode.

Apple apparently found a way to shove the Safari browser down the throats of Windows users by bundling it with iTunes update. They report a new version of Safari when a user searches in iTunes for updates. This happens even if Safari has never been installed on the system before.
Read more »Microsoft likes to make things complicated from time to time it seems. When you right-click a file, folder or search result in Windows Vista you get the normal command menu with options to open, edit or print the marked objects. If you happen to press shift while right-clicking you will also notice that a new option has been added to the menu which is called Copy to Path.

Read more »It is possible to set the Windows Taskbar to autohide if the mouse is not in the area. It will automatically appear again if you move the mouse in the area of the taskbar. The process itself was rather messy in the past but it has become easier now and there are even shops that refill the ink for you. Some printer cartridges however have a chip build in that prevents that the printer is recognizing the refilled cartridges effectively preventing users from using this low cost method.

The second vulnerability has already been fixed in the newest version of VLC which is available for download on the developers homepage. The first vulnerability however can be exploited to cause stack-based buffer overflows when loading subtitles in VLC.

Both versions contain five languages which are English, German, French, Spanish and Japanese. The 32-bit Service Pack 1 download has a file size of 434 Megabyte while the 64-bit file size is 726 Megabyte.

That’s unfortunately wrong and should cause some concern by some users. The Internet Explorer is using so called index.dat files to store information even though the information contained in those files are hardly needed. The auto complete feature is using the index.dat file of visited websites.
Read more »The Event Viewer is a great way to diagnose system problems in Windows. You can access the build in Event Viewer by clicking on Computer Management in the Administrative Tools section of the Control Panel. Events are sorted by type, date, source, event id and other variables. The main problem of the default Event Viewer is the lack of information and options to obtain them.
A good way to start would be to look up the Event Id in a database that contains a list of them. This has to be done manually if you use the default Event Viewer.
HD View is a new technology that is developed by Microsoft Research that aids in the display and interaction with large images with sizes of one or more Gigapixels.

The latest official builds have been tested, they are at the time of the test: Opera 9.5 build 9815/1834, Firefox 3 Gran Paradiso beta 4 and Internet Explorer 8 beta 1. I have been using the Webwait application for this test which monitors page loading times of pages that you select.

Users can just go and visit the official Hulu website and browse the contents and play anything they like in their browser. Hulu does have a good selection of movies and tv episodes from popular media companies like Fox, Universal Pictures, Sony or MGM.
Read more »It’s Wednesday and you all know what that means, it is time for the weekly software updates thread. This week was rather exciting with lots of updates for popular applications, actually so many that it was quite hard to decide about the software update of the week.
I had to make a decision nevertheless and the update of the week award goes to Teracopy. Not because it had the most impressive changes but because it is such an awesome application that it deserves to be mentioned here.
