Randy was commenting on today’s article about using several Firefox profiles pointing out that he would love a list of the security add-ons that I was using in my secure profile. One of those is called View Dependencies. You have to understand that loading a website is not like downloading one file to your computer. A website can be broken into several files that are all downloaded separately.

I’m sometimes amazed by new Firefox extensions that get developed. One of those that surely has its uses is the Firefox iPhone Emulator extension which is currently an experimental build. Don’t expect to control the Apple iPhone with all its features in Firefox. It currently offers the iPhone interface and the ability to navigate websites. While this does not sound like much it could provide to be very useful for webmasters.

Copying texts and other elements of a website in Firefox always includes the format of the elements. This means that a text with a headline will exactly look alike after pasting it into an editor that supports this formats. Pasting it into a plain text editor like Notepad would delete the formatting and display the text text only.

Many Firefox extensions add their own entries to the Firefox configuration that can be accessed by typing about:config in the address bar of Firefox. It is relatively easy to backup the full Firefox user profile that includes the extension preferences but problems arise if only selected preferences from some specific extensions are needed. I’m thinking of a scenario where a user copied his profile from his main computer to his notebook and installed an extension on the main computer afterwards.

Have you ever asked yourself if a certain file is inside an archive on a website ? Did you download the archive from that website only to find out that the file was not included ? Worry no more; The Firefox add-on ArchView (thanks Archer for the tip) adds a function to Firefox that makes that process a tad easier.

Mosey added a link to his comment that pointed to the Firefox add-on Quick Restart in my post about 10 Useful Firefox Add-ons That Don’t Get Glamorised. It’s more often than not the small changes that make a huge difference. I do test many Firefox extensions, tweaks and themes and one thing that bothered me a lot was that not every menu had a restart Firefox option.

In the last days I have been looking for a Firefox extension that would make it possible to open multiple bookmarks (and History items) at once. What I mean with this is that I wanted something like the CTRL left-click in Windows Explorer that lets you pick several files at once. My main problem was that the bookmarks menu collapsed as soon as I picked on bookmark that I wanted to load.

I don’t know how it is in the states but SMS are a phenomena in Europe. It’s a very easy foolproof way to send someone a short message without having to call that purpose. The limited space seems to have a huge impact on the language used while sending those messages with abbreviations that most adults cannot decipher anymore.

If you are a regular on the Internet you have experienced your share of mistyped urls that don’t let you click the link because it is not recognized as one by the browser. This is normally a result of adding information to fast to the web without proofreading them. It does not really matter if you are on Twitter, Digg, a forum or your favorite blog, it can happen everywhere.
