Many Firefox users know that typing about:config in the Firefox location bar will open a Firefox configuration file that provides access to user preferences that cannot be changed otherwise. Did you know that there are 15 additional protocol links available ? Not all of them are as useful as the about:config protocol link but some are definitely useful.

Adblock Plus is a Firefox add-on that blocks advertisement, and sometimes other elements, on websites. It supports black- and whitelists and is very flexible. One thing that is missing is an option to generally whitelist all bookmarks.

It never happened to me that I wanted to restore more than two tabs in Firefox and even that happened only once since the feature has been introduced to the browser. A right-click on a tab opens a menu that has an option to undo the last closing of a tab in Firefox.

Most Firefox users know that they can start Firefox so that it automatically displays one website which is also known as the homepage. Readers of my blog also know that it is possible to load multiple homepages by separating every website with the | char. To load Ghacks and Google whenever Firefox starts users would add the line http://www.ghacks.net/ | http://www.google.com/ to the Home Page option in Firefox.

Shortly after releasing version Firefox 2.0.0.16 the Firefox development team released another update this time for Firefox 3. The update fixes three security updates that have a critical rating making this a security update. It is recommended to update Firefox 3 as soon as possible to close the security holes.
Two of my add-ons stopped working and I had to manually edit them so that they I could continue using them. Two of the three vulnerabilities have been the same that were fixed in Firefox 2 while one is a Gif rendering vulnerability on Mac OS X that could crash the browser.

A left-click in the location bar of Firefox 3 will select the complete URL instead of just moving the cursor to that position. This makes it complicated to select only part of the url. If you do not like that feature and prefer the old behavior I have a nice alternative for you.
A left-click puts the cursor at that position without selecting the full URL while a double-click would select the full URL instead. This can be achieved by changing two parameters in the Firefox configuration.

Many applications that were able to check the boomarks in previous versions of Firefox are no longer working with the latest Firefox 3 because of the changes that have been made to the way those bookmarks are stored. Firefox 2 and previous versions did store the bookmarks in a file called bookmarks.html while Firefox 3 stores them in a database file called places.sqlite in the Firefox profile folder.

One of my readers - Sammy - sent me an email just a few minutes ago that told me of a problem that several Firefox 3 users were having when scrolling websites with large fixed background images. The scrolling was choppy, example sites where this occurred can be found here, here and here. If you are one of the unfortunate with that issue you can fix it quite easily.

Firefox is by default saving the active session every ten seconds. This is handy if the browser crashes to avoid data loss. I was more than once happy that Firefox provided the session restore functionality to avoid loosing part of the article that I had written during that session. Some users might need to change the interval that is used to save the active session either because they want to make sure that the active sessions is stored more often to reduce the data loss further or to extend the interval to free up some resources that are used by this feature.
